The Costco Membership
If you know anything about me, you know I’d BLEED for Costco.
As a native of the Pacific Northwest, I grew up on Costco pizza and Saturday Sample Days. My parents still go to Costco for no specific reason, but rather to just browse (and maybe buy bananas for my dad’s protein shakes.) We’re a Costco family, and the price of a $65 annual membership (that I split with my grandma) is absolutely worth it.
But beyond just the packs of toilet paper, huge bagged salads, and boxes of La Croix, here are some lesser-known values of a Costco membership that make it totally worth it. Grab yo’ samples and let’s do this.
1. Costco has the best deals on rental cars
I honestly don’t know how they do it, but Costco has the absolute best deal on renting a car. Every. Time. If you’re taking a trip where you need a car, I highly recommend checking Costco first. They’ve got all your reputable brands (Hertz, Alamo, etc.) but for steep discounts. They also waive a second driver fee, if you’re traveling with someone else. Booking through their website is the best way to go: it’s very easy to compare companies and deals.
2. In-store coffee grinder
I never get the pleasure of buying bulk coffee beans — even though they are fresher, better tasting, and cheaper — because I do not have a coffee grinder at home. But lo and behold, what did I notice a few trips ago? A huge in-store grinder right by the soda machine in their food court. GAME. CHANGER. Buy your huge bag of coffee beans, and then on the way out, head to the grinder.
3. Delicious ready-to-eat rotisserie chickens
At my Costco, people LINE UP for these chickens because they’re only $4.99. Big enough for dinner that night, plus a salad topping the next day, this is one of Costco’s best and most convenient deals. They’re juicy and delicious — here are over 30 recipes you can make with rotisserie chicken.
4. Cute and affordable workout clothes
If I had a nickel for every time someone complimented me on my leggings at Barre, I’d be able to afford 5 workout sets from Costco. They have high-quality leggings, loungewear, and tanks that I love wearing to the gym (or, let’s be honest, around the house while I watch Netflix.) They’re high-quality, cute, and don’t cost a fortune (looking at you, LuLuLemon.) I love buying their matching sets or having them shipped to my door (fo’ free!) If they don’t fit, I just take them back next time in person.
5. Costco Citi Credit Card with amazing rewards
I just got my Costco credit card a few weeks ago, and it’s already changing my shopping. 4% cashback on ALL gas for the first year, 3% on restaurants and travel, 2% at Costco, and 1% on everything. And outside of your $65 annual Costco membership fee, there is no yearly fee associated with the card. I’ve already racked up almost $50 in cashback, and it’s only been a few months.
